Deadline Extended to 16 July 2014: CALL FOR APPLICATIONS - Secondary Analysis of the Quantitative Data Set of the UN Multi-Country Study on Men and Violence in Asia and the Pacific
In 2008, four United Nations agencies—the United Nations Development Programme, the United Nations Population Fund, the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women and United Nations Volunteers—came together through the joint programme Partners for Prevention (P4P) to launch the UN Multi-Country Study on Men and Violence in Asia and the Pacific. The study aimed to generate knowledge on how masculinities – or ways of living for men – relate to men’s perceptions and perpetration of violence against women. A quantitative household survey was conducted with more than 10,000 men across 9 sites in 6 countries – Bangladesh, Cambodia, China, Indonesia, Papua New Guinea and Sri Lanka- and more than 3,000 women across 4 sites in 4 countries-Cambodia, China, Papua New Guinea and Sri Lanka. The regional study findings were launched in September 2013 and the findings are being used to enable practitioners and activists to develop evidence-based programmes to work with men and women to prevent violence against women.
The regional pooled data set from the 9 sites is intended for the common good of the UN family and is recognized as a valuable asset that will continue to add to future knowledge on ending violence against women and girls. To ensure this resource is fully utilized, a mechanism has been put in place to store the data, and with the appropriate ethical considerations, provide access to and allow the use of (parts of) the data set for further analysis.
Applications are now open to qualified researchers to access this valuable quantitative data set for secondary analysis. Deadline for applications is 30 June, 2014 before 18:00 hours Bangkok time.
