Pakistan

A film produced as part of the Let’s Talk Men 2.0 project - a Partners for Prevention supported initiative that aims to raise awareness on gender-based violence in South Asia - has become the first Pakistani film in over 50 years to be submitted for Oscar consideration.

The film ‘Zinda Bhaag,’ was selected by the Pakistani Academy Selection Committee for Oscar consideration in the ‘Foreign Language Film Award’. It will now be screened before the Academy, who will vote and shortlist Oscar nominees at a later date.

On 10 September, 2013 UNDP, UNFPA, UN Women and UNV came together, through the regional joint programme Partners for Prevention, to launch the report ‘Why do some men use violence and how can we prevent it? Quantitative findings from the UN Multi-country Study on Men and Violence.’ The study of over 10,000 men in Asia and the Pacific found that overall nearly half of those men interviewed reported using physical and/or sexual violence against a female partner, ranging from 26 percent to 80 percent across the sites studied.

A new UN study on men’s use of violence against women was launched at the Foreign Correspondents’ Club of Thailand on 10 September 2013. The study of over 10,000 men in Asia and the Pacific found that nearly half of those men interviewed reported using physical or sexual violence against a female partner, ranging from 26 percent to 80 percent across the sites. Nearly a quarter of men interviewed reported perpetrating rape against a woman or girl, ranging from 10 percent to 62 percent across the sites.

The new documentary,‘A Man’s World’, focuses on the issue of rape in Cambodia and what can be done to prevent it. The 30-minute documentary, part of the Al Jazeera ‘101 East’ series, includes interviews with Partners for Prevention’s Research Specialist, Emma Fulu, and UN Women Cambodia Country Director, Wenny Kusuma.
